Marble relief depicting Homer's apotheosis, a masterpiece from the Hellenistic era. Crafted by skilled hands between the 3rd and 2nd century BC, this iconic work bears the signature of Archelaos of Priene. According to historical records, it was unearthed in Bovillae, an ancient settlement just east of Rome, during the mid-17th century. Today, this treasure resides proudly in the British Museum's collection, cataloged as Sculpture 2191 and numbered GR 1819.0812.1, with a corresponding entry in the museum's catalog as Cat. 44.
