Arch with Keystone Laser Cut
thingiverse
A Free-Standing Arch Built with Precision-Crafted Components. Crafted from 1/8 inch wood material, laser-cut on a Glowforge, these intricately designed pieces will come together to form a sturdy free-standing arch. To ensure a seamless assembly process, scale the .SVG file to guarantee that punch-out slots measure precisely 1/8 inch in width (or slightly more, depending on the material used). To Assemble Your Free-Standing Arch: Begin by combining the large rectangle and bottom piece with two smaller rectangular punch-outs, which will serve as the foundation. Insert an arch component into each punch-out slot and attach a square with a small punch-out rectangle to the opposite end of the arch component. This initial assembly should yield a complete base. Each arch component must be secured to two squares by inserting its ends into corresponding rectangular punch-outs, forming arched I-beam styled pieces. The keystone stands out from the rest due to its distinctive protruding mark at the top, characteristic of keystones in traditional architecture. Upon completion, you should have a solid base piece, six I-beam-like arch components, and one I-beam-like keystone. With two pairs of hands, assemble the arch, applying a slight load of direct downward pressure to test its stability. To demonstrate the concept of a keystone, leave the arch unglued, allowing you to showcase how weight and pressure are redirected down the arch, ultimately held in place by the keystone.
