The spatial documentation of Djemila unfolded in 2013 & 2014 during two field campaigns, utilizing terrestrial laser-scanning techniques. This collaborative research project was spearheaded by Prof. Hamza Zeghlache from the University of Setif, Algeria. The project is a key component of the intergovernmental Algeria/South Africa research cooperation program, coordinated by the Algerian Direction Generale de la Recherche et du Developpement Technologique and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa. Currently, in 2020, we have successfully employed Reality Capture technology to incorporate color texture into the Arch of Caracalla model. Djemila, formerly known as Cuicul, is a small mountain village situated in northern Algeria, near the eastern coast of Algiers, boasting some of North Africa's most well-preserved Berbero-Roman ruins. The region borders Constantinois and Petite Kabylie (Basse Kabylie). In 1982, Djemila was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its ingenious adaptation of Roman architecture to a mountainous environment.
