Arc Majeur
thingiverse
Parametric (and still simplified) modeling of the "Arc Majeur" artwork located in Belgium on the E411 motorway, a short drive from my home. This massive structure is crafted from 250 tons of CORTEN steel and towers at an impressive 60 meters high. For more information, visit http://www.arcmajeur.com/en In mathematics, a major arc refers to the longest possible arc between two points on a circle, spanning over 180 degrees - in my estimation, it's approximately 205 degrees. Although I'm not entirely certain about the exact dimensions, they can be easily adjusted as parameters within the OpenScad file. The radius appears to be around 30 meters, and the section is square with each edge measuring 2.25 meters. To achieve a more dramatic look and better quality in smaller sizes, I've used an exaggerated value of 4 meters instead of 2.25. This modification has produced a visually appealing structure. A huge thank you goes to Tim from chickenchuck040 for providing the arc primitive, which can be found on Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/chickenchuck040/about If anyone has more accurate figures or measurements, I'd love to receive them - there are some ongoing requests waiting to be fulfilled!
