The Germanicus Arch of the city of Saintes was built in 18 AD under Emperor Tiberius and symbolizes the entrance to the ancient city - Mediolanum. The Arch was positioned at the entrance of the ancient bridge that spanned the Charente River. It was relocated to the Bassompierre Square in 1843 at the request of Prosper Mérimée. http://ste-archeologique17.asso.fr/jea2020-l-arc-romain-de-saintes/ http://mediolanum-santonum.fr/arc-de-germanicus.html
