The crystal structure of arachidonic acid bound in the cyclooxygenase active site of PGHS-1 reveals a highly productive conformation when interacting with prostaglandin synthase. This structural insight was provided by Malkowski, M.G., Ginell, S.L., Smith, W.L., and Garavito, R.M. in their 2000 Science publication, where they reported on the binding of arachidonic acid to PGHS-1.
