In 1985, a German submarine designed for stealth was constructed in Argentina and eventually sank at a depth of 900 meters. This vessel played a role in the Malvinas War, successfully attacking a Royal Navy ship. It was a pioneering diesel-electric sub, adopting a revolutionary system first tested by the German Type XXI during World War II. The diesel-electric configuration became feasible with the invention of the snorkel, which enabled the submarine to charge its batteries underwater using diesel engines.
