The ARA Salta (S-31) is a type 209/1200 attack submarine (named Salta class by Argentina) serving in the Argentine Navy. It is an ocean-going submarine, diesel-electric propulsion for attack and destruction of combat units, surface, submarines and merchant traffic, through the use of torpedoes. It can also perform important ancillary tasks such as reconnaissance, mining and transport of special operations forces. One of the requirements of the Navy when contracting it, was that the submarines of this class had to have the capacity to operate in immersion for no less than 50 days.
