Aquila Hot End Cover Deep WS2812
thingiverse
Picked up davecole's Aquila hot end cover and remixed it to have some holders for WS2812 LEDs that are controlled by a Raspberry Pi (OctoPi). Always have a tough time seeing underneath the hot end during the first layer lay down. Works well to light things up for cameras as well, even in a dark room. Made use of the cool logo design on the front to add more venting on the sides farther back and lower so the blower would get more air on one side, and on the other allow the hot fan air a quicker path out. There is still room for a 20mm deep fan. If installing on a Aquila X2 make sure the screen is not in the path of of the now wider hot end (you may have to bend the screen bracket a bit). The WS2812's are mounted on round PCBs about 9mm in diameter and are available from several sources already assembled but you will have to do the wiring between them and back to your controller of choice. The mounts have a small hole for a piece of filament to push behind the PCB to hold it in place. See picture and do trim them back. The printing process will probably leave the hole rough so plan on using something to get it back to 1.75mm. You want about 110mm of wire between the PCBs to route within the cover. Would suggest some sort of transparent print to get the full impact of the internal 2812, or skip it and just have the bottom one. See davecole's original thing 4931467 notes for more.
