Aquatlantis Aquarium Top-Cover Hinge

Aquatlantis Aquarium Top-Cover Hinge

thingiverse

A few weeks back, one of the hinges on my 60x30x30 Aquatlantis aquarium suddenly snapped off. I decided to take matters into my own hands and design a new hinge from scratch. I made several key improvements along the way. Firstly, my design didn't include any holes - I genuinely couldn't understand why they were there in the first place? Secondly, its legs are slightly thicker than before. Finally, I added a small notch to one side of the hinge, making it easier to print without any support structures getting in the way. To ensure that the new hinge fit snugly into place (I wanted a nice snap-in action), I deliberately made it slightly smaller than the original. This meant that depending on the printer and material used, a small hole could be drilled out afterwards if needed - I ended up using a 5.5mm drill bit for this purpose. The printing process itself was carried out using White PLA, with a high infill setting to maximize strength.
