Aqualad, also known as Garth is Aquaman's teenage sidekick. As an adult he took the name Tempest. He is a member of the Aquaman Family along with other side-kicks including Aquagirl and Dolphin. His powers include hydrokinesis, super-strength, invulnerability, and the ability to survive underwater at any depth possible. These are natural as an amphibious humanoid hybrid, allowing him to live in the underwater city of Atlantis. In addition, he is one of the most powerful magic users in the DC Universe. The Water-Bearers are Aqualad's signature weapons. They allow him to create hard-water constructs out of any fluid. They are tools used by students of the Conservatory of Sorcery,a mix of Atlantean science and sorcery. Users use the tattoos on their body to power them.
