Here is the great and beautiful "Aqua-Pot." This device couldn't be more simple and perfect, works like an aquarium filter. With or without plant, it simply works. The nice bacteria do the work! Print in ABS or rotproof plastic How I Designed This No problems, only solutions. The aquarium is lovely, it calms and does everything you want. But it consumes a lot of water and without wanting to make bad publicity, commercial filters never lasted more than some months. So here it is, I thought: "Hey, the clay balls can serve as shelters for bacteria that take care of nitrogen components in the water through fish waste" (following a school project on aquaculture and everything that follows). Obviously, once the idea was acquired, the rest was very quick; the commercial filter pump, a 3D printer and expanded clay balls were enough to make this small aquarium viable without water change since August 2015 (certainly it's necessary to add especially because the cat likes drinking from it) Interêt Didactique You'll tell me that it's beautiful, but what's the point of having a clean little aquarium? And well simply, this application can certainly be done for larger projects and if you feel like doing aquaculture (but then for a mini-aromatic garden it's probably a must), it will only take one or several red fish (or another) without necessarily having a very special aquarium since this system doesn't even need to be printed, empty ice buckets or others can do the job. Think of a teacher who wants to show a new type of culture to his students; the system is low-cost, maintains the aquarium without plant (during school vacations for example) and has many possible applications, such as showing what an ecosystem is, the water cycle and many others!
