Apulian red-figured volute-krater (wine bowl)

myminifactory

This Apulian red-figured volute-krater originates from a Greek region, crafted around 320-310 BC by a skilled artisan in Apulia who closely followed the style of the Baltimore Painter. One side vividly depicts intense battles from the Trojan War. In contrast, the opposing side showcases Greeks clashing with Amazons, while an assembly of gods observes as Pelops and Oinomaos, King of Elis, prepare for their chariot race by offering sacrifices. The krater shows signs of restoration. It was once owned by Prince Napoleon Bonaparte from 1822 until his death in 1891.
