Apple Watch Kiosk (iPad Pro)

For a recent conference or trade show, we required a way to display our Apple Watch apps on something larger than a watch screen for demo purposes, so I made it big. I scaled up the watch to allow an iPad Pro to be used as the "watch face." I then programmed a copy of the watch app for the iPad to emulate the look and feel along with gestures of the app on the watch. The watch was designed with a top bezel that I used eight-millimeter magnets in to secure it to the body. This allowed the bezel to be pulled from the display to insert the iPad Pro from the back of the bezel, so we could take it with us at night to recharge it. I printed the watch body, button, jewel, and band clasp in PETG. I broke up the model to print as it wouldn't all fit into my printer. I then glued everything together using epoxy. I painted the parts in a stainless steel paint and black for the bezel. For the watch bands, I cut them from twenty-five-millimeter expanded PVC board via CNC. I then used a half-inch roundover bit in a handheld router to round over all the edges except for the hold where the "clasp" got glued in. I then heat-formed them to their final bent shape. After this, I sprayed them with Plastidip coating to give the same silicone texture and feel as the originals. The unit wouldn't self-stand so I acquired tablet kiosk stands and used the stands to hold them up. I hand-cut the stand holes in the PVC. The bands could be epoxied into the watch body but I did not do this, so it could be broken down for shipping. The stands were a huge success and did their job. It was so much easier to demo on the big iPad versus the tiny watch screen. The posted images are before I epoxied on the button and jewel and did final paint, so it is just in primer.
