Apple Trackpad and Keyboard Joiner

Apple Trackpad and Keyboard Joiner

thingiverse

This is a remix of a nice drawing by @THINGIBOX. It takes his original shape and adds extra support/rigidity to allow you to leave the assembled set on your lap. In my limited testing, it even holds together upside down. Like Thingibox's original, the design allows for the trackpad to attach to either side of the keyboard. This is designed to combine an Apple Wireless Magic Trackpad (a1339) and the Apple MC184LL/B Wireless Keyboard. Print the following: 2 @ Endcaps, 1 @ Joiner. Assembly: OPTION ONE I found that I could snap the pieces in place by aligning the rounded part with the channel cut. This should pop the front lip over the edge of the keyboard/trackpad. Make sure the rubber band lands squarely in the channel to avoid damaging the rubber stopper. OPTION TWO First, check your print for "elephant footing" on the print bed side. If necessary, remove excess material to avoid damaging the rubber band. Once clear, line up the joiner with the keyboard and slide it halfway onto the circular feet. Carefully align and slide the trackpad into the other half of the joiner until the two pieces meet. Note: * You will have to at least partially separate the devices to power on or access the battery compartment. * My printer had a minor layer shift while printing the joiner, resulting in a line down the middle of the largest plate. This did not affect the print's function, so it was left as is. * A copy of the SketchUp file is included for modification purposes.
