After getting zapped one time by exposed high voltage of open imac PSU I made easy to install shield for it. Now during active test or fault finding I could safely leave it on screen less. Possibly you could leave it on for ever if printed in ABS but I\m not sure about airflow. See my other thing for similar shields for iMac and cinema displays.
