Apple Gears
thingiverse
My mom, a first-grade teacher, requested a 3D printed apple for her desk display. To create this, I used OpenSCAD for the first time, as I am more familiar with Solidworks, NX, and PROE. The project was enjoyable, and I received assistance from whpthomas's PLA gear kit, emmett's heartgears.scad file, and GregFrost's files. The apple model is designed to be sliced into gears using a specific orientation. After printing with Makerware's standard settings (Rep 2 PLA, .2mm thickness, 10% infill, 230 F, 2 shells), assembling the gears was a bit tricky but rewarding due to its 3D puzzle nature. The stem was securely glued in place using superglue.
