The ancient apothecary jar reaches back to the 18th century. A small plaque on its side clearly states what's inside: MILLEP(EDES). This refers to a type of dried crustacean that belongs to the order Isopoda, known in Polish as "centipedes," despite being unrelated to Myriapods by ancestry. It was mainly prescribed for whooping cough and hydrops, an old medical term for excessive fluid accumulation in tissues and body cavities, which might be considered synonymous with generalized oedema or anasarca. ID number: KGZ 2316. Creation time frame: 18th to 19th century. Museum: The Museum of Pharmacy at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków.
