The human face was fragmented. Only the left eye, nose, and part of the lower jaw had been preserved. The gaze was directed upwards, giving an air of visitor, characteristic of Apollo Lykeios. Sufficient hair remained to affirm that it was pulled back into a knot at the nape of the neck, from which two thick strands extended over the shoulders. The hairs were separated by deep grooves made with a trepan. Therefore, this statue would have been executed in Phrygia's center, in Dokimon's workshop, during the late Antonine period. At the back of the head, under the knot, a supplementary support for the statue's head can be seen, typical of micro-Asian workshops. This is a high-quality work. The head was turned to the left and probably tilted slightly backward. Al. Diaconescu suggests that it could be a representation of Liber Pater according to the compositional schema of Apollo Lykeios.
