Apollo 11 was an American manned space flight responsible for the first landing on the Moon. Armstrong became the first human to step on the lunar surface six hours later on the 21st, followed by Aldrin twenty minutes later. The two spent about two hours and fifteen minutes outside the spacecraft and collected 21.5 kilograms of material to bring back to Earth. Michael Collins piloted the Columbia command and service module alone in the Moon's orbit while his companions were on the surface.
