The Starspear started life as a space superiority dogfighter long before the mercenary incursions and was considered a museum piece. However, the start of the outer rim conflicts created an urgent need for starfighters and the elderly Starspears were put back into service. While the powerplant of the old pursuit fighter made it still adequate for combat, the old caseless projectile weaponry was hopelessly dated and was entirely replaced by the cannon blisters on the belly of the aged pursuit ship. Redesignated the AP-99, Starspears served with some distinction despite their age and the refitted models still see service in some far-off worlds of the outer rim.
