AOSafety® R5700 8051 Bayonet to 3M™ Bayonet Filter Adapter

AOSafety R5700 8051 Bayonet to 3M Bayonet Filter Adapter ================================================== I designed a prototype for the AOSafety R5700 8051 bayonet to 3M bayonet filter adapter to breathe new life into this old half-face respirator. AOSafety was acquired by 3M in 2007 and no longer produces this mask or its filter cartridges. This design may still be useful, as many hardware stores and some construction crews may have them. To test the feasibility of making cartridge side female attachments for future adapters, I created a bayonet to bayonet adapter with specific requirements for the AOSafety R5700 8051 series. Due to their older design, these filters require a Left-Hand Side (LHS) and Right-Hand Side (RHS) specific adapter, as certain 3M filter cartridges need to be clocked. Part Description: ================ AOS_R5700_8051_Cartridge_Side_Female_LHS_GEN2.stl AOS_R5700_8051_Cartridge_Side_Female_RHS_GEN2.stl These are the initial model releases. The Gen 2 features added chamfers to reduce sharp edges that could cause wear on the bayonet, and engraved markings on the exterior periphery to identify adapters as either Left-Hand (LH) or Right-Hand (RH). Disclaimers/Risks: ================ 1.) Use Proper Gaskets and Shimming Height Under Bayonet ----------------------------------------------------- Proper sealing between the cartridge and bayonet requires a gasket or O-ring. Find a washer or O-ring with a nominal ID of 31.115 mm or 1.225 in at the base to wrap around the base of the AOSafety R5700 8051 bayonet, and a 3M 6895 Replacement Inhalation Port Gasket under the 3M bayonet. 2.) Perform Proper Negative Pressure Test ------------------------------------------- Follow your institution's or workplace's SSPs for further guidance. Adjust the respirator straps until they are tight against your face, ensuring no obstructions around the periphery of the seal. Exhale deeply and cover all inhalation ports. Inhale deeply and the mask should suck tightly against your face without any air leakages. Re-test if adjustments are required at gasket or O-ring interfaces. 3.) Use At Own Risk - Temporarily Solution Only Until Supply Chain Normalizes --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3D printing materials are not resistant to many solvents, water soluble, and degrade when exposed to chemicals, heat, and UV/sunlight. This 3D printed adapter is only a temporary solution against biological contagions. To improve durability, apply a thin layer of polyurethane clear coat on all exterior surfaces. Dev. Notes: ========== 04/01/2020 - Initial model release. In collaboration with the local 3D printing community to produce prototype and make revisions as required for fitment. 04/13/2020 - Update to include chamfers added to AOSafety bayonet filter mating surfaces, engraved markings on exterior periphery to ID adapters, whether RH or LH.
