Anything Small Box

For Christmas, I created these little round boxes and gifted them to friends and family. The idea behind this gift was to provide a place to store all those tiny items that often get misplaced in drawers or cans or wherever. So, I encouraged the recipients to use these boxes to stash buttons, earrings, earring backs, baby teeth (or puppy teeth, as it were!), screws for glasses, seeds from the garden, or small fragments they intended to glue back onto furniture or pottery and so on. The only limitations are size and imagination. Then, I included an index card to help them keep track of what's inside each box. It was a fun project that promoted organization. To make these boxes, I created 20 round containers and placed them into a 5 X 5 X 1 inch cardboard box. Next, I added 1-inch diameter labels to the lids and numbered them using a pen. I also printed an index card and included it with each box. To complete the project, I attached a word document that allowed them to print their own "Anything Small Box" label for the outside of the larger box. It took approximately 16 minutes per box/lid on standard settings, but I noticed that the fit was tight off the printer. To solve this issue, I simply opened and closed the lid a few times until it wore in. Alternatively, I placed the lid on the box and left it in a sunny windowsill for a couple of hours to allow the tabs to set perfectly. I purchased the boxes from Uline and the labels from an office supply store.
