Since I'm revamping my whole 3D printer setup, I need a plate situated between the extruder and print head (see attached image; the extruder hangs low over the print head without placing weight on it, but isn't swinging as hard anymore). Additional rubber bands help absorb vibrations, which are then channeled to the chassis, which sits on rubber balls in a fitting. The outcome of this dampening is quite remarkable. I also disassembled the print head and moved the metal plate upward (so it won't cool down the head like with my original configuration). I wrapped the coldend with copper wire for improved heat transfer and cut the pipe that feeds into the coldend, allowing me to lower the extruder closer to the printhead. Furthermore, I added TL smoothers. Prior to making these changes, I struggled with many unsuccessful prints due to frequent heat issues, clogged nozzles, etc. However, now even with 0.2mm layers, my prints look fine and very smooth (see pictures). Ghosting on test cubes has significantly decreased as well. This plate will be printed in TPU form since it will be screwed down to this plate while keeping the springs intact. This should further reduce extruder rattling without adding additional weight to the head. One side of the plate features bumpers for shock absorption, and the other holds multiple M6x1 threads so you can mount your extruder at any desired position.
