Anycubic Mega S filament sensor fix (attempt)
prusaprinters
TLDR: My attempt at fixing the finicky sensor false negative nuisance. Do not need to remove sensor or filament to install, clips onto the filament sensor! Work in progress! I'm leaving it on my printer to see if the problem surfaces again.Update 18 Jan 22: I finally got around to changing the filament sensor to another model that is for 1.75mm filament only. Had to change the connector pins from Red middle to the free corner slot. I should not be updating this unless there is still problems with the filament sensor.Update 24 Dec 21: Uploaded updated design, been using this for a while now without any issues. Might do clean-up to make it easier to print later, did not put much thought into that because I was trying to get a design that works first.Long winded story below.Got hold of a pre owned Anycubiic Mega S. Realised the filament sensor triggering a false negative of filament runout. Gave me warnings at times and stopped prints at some instances.Did some reading up and realise that sensor is for both 1.75mm and 2.85mm filament, which might become more prone to losing contact if the filament is moving around.I am thinking if i can keep the filament position more or less stable while inside the sensor path, might eliminate the intermittent filament error warning.I designed it such that I can attach this part without removing the filament, might remove this feature in the future if this fix concept is reliable.Files are named v4 because this is my 4th idea to attempt a simple fix. Still trying out this print, will update if this fails to resolve. Some might be asking why bother so much time and effort to fix a US$1+ part, or upgrade to a better sensor for US$10 onwards, well i don't know also haha.I see it more as a challenge if I can find a simple fix that can be applied to other printers using the same sensor, if not i'll probably just unplug the damn thing or get a more reliable sensor.Feel free to be my guinea pig and give feedback!Clicking on my AliExpress affiliate link below will give me a small kickback if you purchase something within 3 days.
