AnyBox Filament Storage
thingiverse
I was looking for a dry spot to stash my filament, and since I had an abundance of storage boxes at my disposal, I figured instead of building something custom-made for one box, I'd create something that can be used with any storage container. It's incredibly straightforward: two screws are inserted loosely into a 3/4" PVC pipe that's been cut to the desired length. One screw has a left-hand thread and the other a right-hand thread, ensuring they won't back out during use. The kit also comes with a spacer that can be attached to the pipe to prevent spools from shifting around. This component features holes for M5 screws in case you want to secure it in place. To set up the system, simply drill an 18mm (11/16") hole into the side of your box where you'd like the pipe to reside. Place the pipe inside the box and turn the screw from the outside in. The screw will sit loosely within the PVC pipe, allowing for effortless rotation. If you opt for a larger hole, it's perfectly fine - threading it through the side of your box isn't essential for functionality. In case the screws start to back out with use, simply swap their positions. To change filament, just unscrew both sides and withdraw the PVC pipe. The best part? This system is designed to be flexible: if you decide to upgrade to a larger box later on, these spools can easily accompany it! Feel free to share any ideas or improvements you'd like to see! I intentionally kept this design simple for my first Thing.
