Antler Comb from Clachtoll Broch, Assynt
sketchfab
The ancient antler comb was unearthed during a meticulous excavation at the historic Clachtoll Broch in Sutherland, Scotland's rugged north. Dated to the Iron Age, this prized artifact played a vital role in textile production, likely serving as a trusty tool for wool combing. Distinct signs of wear and tear surround the perforation, suggesting it was frequently suspended on a cord or string, possibly by the very person who wielded it, or conveniently hung up for storage. Furthermore, noticeable wear between the teeth reveals that, despite its pristine appearance, this antler comb had indeed seen its fair share of use. Historic Assynt spearheaded the excavations at Clachtoll Broch as part of their ambitious Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape project.
