At Zandbroz Variety in downtown Sioux Falls, I regularly drop by to discover fresh subjects to photograph. Behind the store lies a compact antiques and vintage section that never fails to fascinate me. While browsing through the clearance cart one day, I spotted this delightful figurine and quickly decided to pose him for a photo shoot. How I Designed This Project I placed the figurine in an area with soft, indirect lighting to prevent any blown-out highlights or deep shadows from ruining the shot. Next, I laid out a scale card that I always carry with me and took 58 photos using my iPhone 6 Plus. Upon returning home, I swiftly skimmed through the photographs for any signs of blurriness before exporting them into a folder on my desktop. From there, I opened up all the photos and removed the location data from the EXIF so that Photoscan wouldn't get confused by it. I then imported the entire folder into Photoscan and set the settings to "High" for each step of the process. The only variation came during mesh creation when I opted for a "Moderate" setting instead of the usual "Aggressive." Once the mesh was complete, I discovered that there were numerous dimples, craters, and odd artifacts that needed to be edited out. To tackle this challenge, I exported the model as an OBJ file into Meshmixer where I spent some time refining it until I was satisfied with the results. When I was happy with the new look, I saved it as a fresh OBJ file and then imported it back into Photoscan. Finally, I moved on to creating textures for the figurine. In the texture box, I set my settings to average out the photos for color correction and to push the detail up to 8192 pixels to get the best possible results.
