Antinous at Glyptothek Museum, Germany
myminifactory
This stunning marble portrait of Antinous was crafted around AD 130, near the end of the Greek youth's life. The classical features of his face and body are sensually rounded and smoothly formed, showcasing thick, curly hair that is both detailed and intricately carved. A haunting melancholy hangs over this completely impassive face. Such finely defined busts and carefully drilled hair and features were typically reserved for individuals of higher status; Antinous was deified after his death, being revered in both the Greek East and Latin West as a god or a mortal elevated to divine status. This artifact is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. Through this effort, we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe that can be accessed for free by the public. "Scan The World" is an open-source community project, and anyone with interesting items nearby who would like to contribute should email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can assist.
