Boccioni boldly rejected conventional artistic values, an attitude he thoroughly expressed in his influential book Pittura, scultura futuriste, published in 1914. "We must shatter, annihilate, and eradicate our outdated harmony," he declared, "the one that leads us into a delicacy created by weak and emotional novices." Many art historians have speculated that Boccioni's work was directly influenced by Pablo Picasso's 1909 bronze sculpture Head of a Woman, due to the striking stylistic similarities between the two pieces.
