Anti-Theft Fake Stereo Cover - Single DIN

I'm rocking an old Pioneer head unit, AVH-7800BT, in my trusty 87 Ford Bronco. I've got a single DIN setup going on here, but let's be real, it's not exactly the most ideal spot for a motorized, flip out face - especially with those AC controls up top. I'm also on the down low about wanting to avoid anyone recognizing this sweet unit and thinking it's an easy score. My truck might not look like much, but I've got no rear roof and always keep my windows rolled down unless it gets chilly outside. Given how easy it is for some shady characters to swipe a deck from one of these older trucks, I figured it was time to add some extra security measures. So, I whipped up this simple cover that makes my old Pioneer look like a busted cassette tape deck - and that's exactly the vibe I'm going for! You can add an LCD sticker or even a real LCD to give it some extra flair. If you're feeling fancy, grab an old cassette tape, cut off a quarter of it, and glue it on so it looks like it's sticking out. Now, there are two pieces to this puzzle: the shim and the cover. The shim is mainly for my truck and the space I need to keep the deck from getting in the way. I'm thinking it'll still be necessary, but that depends on whether you can slide your deck out permanently without any issues. To make things easy, I plan to attach a small piece of velcro to the top - just enough to keep the cover in place when the face is flipped out. This solves problem #1: making sure my truck doesn't become an easy target for thieves. The cover itself is the fake radio cover. Feel free to deck it out with all the bells and whistles, or keep it plain Jane - either way works just fine. If you've got a smooth install going on and don't need the shim, you'll still want to slap a small piece of velcro onto your bezel and another spot that lines up. This solves problem #2: making sure my truck doesn't get targeted by thieves. Now that you've got your fake deck in place, it's time to leave the windows down and walk away with a clear conscience!
