Antenor, the Legendary founder of Padua, led a daring escape from ruined Troy with his loyal companions and made landfall in the area now known as Padua after crossing the Adriatic sea. His statue proudly replaced that of Cicero on May 4th, 1776, which had been provisionally erected by Andrea Memmo on October 20th, 1775. Crafted by the skilled Paduan sculptor Francesco Andreosi, the statue bears a striking motto on its shield: "And the time will come." The pedestal features an inscription that reads: "To honor Antenor and the city, Mayor Andreas Memmus dedicates this monument in 1776."
