In this design each segment of the antenna does not get detached during storage (stowed position) but still gets stacked neatly on top of each other, taking up a compact space.Requirements fulfilment 1. Low mass with ability to generate a large load – This design uses 2-way folding hinge to connect the two hinges and a typical model: 400-02430, brand: Jayco, original Model: C2701 have shipping weight of 360 grams and subtracting 9% of the shipping package weight we get 327.6 grams. If we use only one per connection the joint weight per segment becomes 163.8 grams. If we use two joints per one connection the joint weight per segment becomes 327.6 grams which fulfils the weight requirement of “Both sides of the latching mechanism combined should weigh less than 1 kg (2.2lbs)” 2. Meets physical constraints – The size of this design perfectly fits in to the dimension constrains placed by the challenge “in an isosceles triangle extending from the plate that is 20.6cm (8.5”) wide by 14.9cm (5.9”) tall”. But this can also be further be reduced by minimizing the width because the critical components of the system are the four springs. Minimizing the width also fulfils the “out of plane depth of 5 cm (2”)” requirement. If we use two joints per once connection the size will be greatly reduced way less than the challenge requirement. 3. Resistance to unintentional activation – due to its basic working mechanism of the spring system the deployment of the joint only requires a very specific pulling kind of force to be triggered which it is impossible to be unintentionally be activated and since there are covers in place this system is unintentional activation free system. 4. Feasibility of manufacturing and fabrication- even though this joining product is used for home tool, by increasing the specification to preferred strength of the spring system which can be given to already existing big manufacturing company we can get the product according to the need of the system. All we need is to order the manufacturer that can withstand the negative force of the spring. 5. Quality and fidelity of the 3D models- All required CAD models are attached with rendering and deployment stages. 6. Validity and soundness of structural analysis- enough initial details of FBD that illustrates the structural analysis diagrams is attached in the data product. 7. Completing the bonus challenge, creating 3 impact loads after latching- 3 impact loads that are needed for stability
