Antarctica 3D model laser cut
thingiverse
Laser cut layers out of 3mm MDF can be achieved with precise cuts. This 3D model showcases Antarctica's relief as it is, featuring all the ice and land formations. Check out another model that highlights Antarctica without the ice, revealing only the land mass beneath: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3737243 - Cutting requirements include two layers each for a total of twelve different layers. - Each layer features an outline of the one above it, making stacking and gluing easier. - PVA glue is used to bond the layers together. Cutting with 3mm MDF yields a 7,500,000:1 scale model with approximately 150:1 vertical exaggeration. A helpful tip is to cut out the center of each layer to reduce weight and material usage. This work was featured in the Antarctic Footprints exhibition.
