Ant Trap - for smallish hummingbird feeders

Ant Trap - for smallish hummingbird feeders

thingiverse

We've got an infestation of sugar ants around here that just won't quit! These persistent little critters are always on the lookout for something sweet, and once they find it, they're there to stay. Hummingbird feeders are one thing they can't resist, somehow managing to squeeze their way inside where thousands of them have taken up residence. I don't want to give up my hummingbird-watching hobby just because of these pesky ants. Today I'm trying out a new design that comes with a 3mm deep moat and is 14mm wide. People have suggested using vegetable oil to break the ant trail, but there are also commercial pastes available if you want to take it up a notch. If you're printing this, consider using ABS or Nylon instead of PLA to prevent any organic breakdown. Make sure the print can hold its weight before hanging anything heavy from it. Scaling it up is definitely an option - this design takes about an hour to print without supports. If you come across some good barrier materials, please share your results with us. Edit: You'll also find a second 3" tall version of this design in the Thing Files section. Thanks for the suggestion, PonzLL!
