ant nest (formicarium)
thingiverse
Hello ant enthusiasts, I've created an ant nest and Arena, also known as a formicarium, based on the design of KohtaPi. This setup is perfect for smaller ant species like Pheidole, Solenopsis, Myrmica, and others that thrive in warm environments. You might wonder what inspired this project, and I'll keep it simple: it's a functional formicarium designed to be heated with heating cables. While it may appear bulkier than expected, its primary purpose is to provide a comfortable habitat for heat-loving ants. So, why do you want to keep ants? They're incredibly fascinating to watch, produce no noise, and require minimal resources. Plus, they're child-friendly, as long as your little ones don't get too curious about the pipes or hoses. Most ant species aren't individually intelligent, but their swarm intelligence allows them to solve complex problems like navigating obstacles. Currently, you'll receive two files that outline the arena and nest designs. To assemble this project, you'll need a tube with an outer diameter between 12mm and 14mm, as well as two 10Cm by 10Cm acrylic glass sheets. In the near future, I plan to design a stopper for the feeding hole in the arena. I hope you have fun with this project! Please feel free to comment if you have suggestions or questions. Best regards, greenCaulerpa P.S. This project is perfect for teaching children about responsibility and the wonders of ant biology.
