Ant Bait Tray w/ Cover
thingiverse
Have you been battling Argentine ants around your home? I've been fighting them for years with little success until now. Boric Acid is the key ingredient to ridding your house of these pests. And not too much of it. A 1-2% solution mixed with a feed bait will have workers carry the poison back to the nest where eventually, it will kill the queen. It takes persistence to get to this stage! This little tray is set up for a sugar water syrup laced with boric acid. The cover is optional but helps keep things from spilling into the tray. Early versions of this trap was a simple bottle cap with the mixture but it killed too many worker ants. This divided tray will allow more ants to feed and survive to take the booty back home. Using this around an active trail of ants will yield about 1-day's worth of bait. It is suggested that it takes at least two weeks to possibly kill the queen. And what's more, these ants are not dedicated to one queen. They will readily join another colony if theirs collapses. These are fairly simple models and a thousand ways to make them. My bait is 49.5% water; 49.5% sugar, and 1% boric acid all fully dissolved and then refrigerated. I fill the trays daily until the hordes wane. Remember that the sugar will crystallize in short order so this is not for the "set it and forget it" crowd. This is for those who are fed up and are planning to actually do something about it without resorting to poisoning these ants with toxins. Boric acid is safe for human contact.
