Another backlash reducer for Overlord / Overlord Pro
thingiverse
Having installed Pawpawpaw85's backlash reducer on my printer, I've noticed a real enhancement of printing quality. However, some issues arose: The spring unhooks too easily, the locking device at the end of the arm is too large and hinders printer movement, and removing support for printing the hook is tricky. Therefore, I designed mine from scratch with a minimalistic anchor to the arm's end, an attachment point that truly secures the springs, and no need for additional support between pieces. Update: To avoid conflicts with the printer fan, I added supports in a couple of each (red on the image). Update: Additional supports were created to complement previous ones by attaching more securely to the arm (green on the picture). Two-and-a-half years later: In July 2018, an ABS-printed support made in January 2016 cracked. Although I kept the PLA version, I immediately reinstalled it and printed a fresh batch in ABS. Using a white spool to distinguish between generations, I was confident the second would perform just as well as the first... That's far from true, as seen in images. To determine the cause, I carefully inspected both spools: my white "ABS+" spool was different from the original black "ABS." On hand was a neutral ABS spool - it printed without issue (as seen in an image). Don't jump to conclusions that "ABS+" is problematic; in reality, the build plate attachment improved. The photos show that large rafts for printing ABS often caused issues. Additional notes: - Rapid destruction (less than a day) was experienced with PLA supports - keep these minimal and only as last resort. - Pictures clearly illustrate springs abrading over time. Print Settings: Printer: OverLord Pro Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 40% Notes: Specific Cura settings are used for printing: a shell thickness of 1.2mm enhances piece strength, Supports set to "touching build plate" ensures ease in removal, The overhang angle for supports is set as low as 37° (expert mode), and the support filling is raised from the usual 15% to 35% (for generation two).
