cults3d
This bust is a faithful replica of an original masterpiece created by Paolo Naldini (Rome, 1614-1691), crafted to adorn the monument designed by Carlo Maratta as a tribute to the outstanding achievements of the renowned painter Annibale Carracci. Before arriving at The Louvre, the bust and its matching counterpart were showcased in 1722 at the Chateau de Meudon. Annibale Carracci was an Italian Baroque artist who, alongside his brother Agostino and cousin Ludovico Carracci, worked tirelessly in their shared studio, aptly titled 'The Academy of the Desiderosi', a collective pursuit of fame and knowledge that would later be renamed the Incamminati, signifying progress and innovation. Carracci was widely acclaimed for his remarkable ability to evolve from the prevailing Caravaggisti style, which dominated the art scene at the time, where artists were urged to capture the Platonic ideal of beauty in their work, emulating the legendary Caravaggio. His breathtaking paintings can now be found in esteemed collections around the world, but he is most celebrated for his magnificent Frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese.
