Ann Hamilton Vase

I learned alongside Ann Hamilton at UCSB in the late 80's, and this photo of her by Bob DeBris has always captivated me. Determined to recreate the entire image, I headed out early that morning, only to encounter difficulties rendering her hands and head in twitchy poses. Realizing the project had become too ambitious, I simplified my focus to a single, everyday object: a vase for dry grasses. The structure proved sturdy, able to hold its form without any liquids poured inside. Still, I remain concerned it might topple over, especially given its unsteady base - upon closer inspection, I discovered the foot was only slightly sloped rather than flat. To rectify this issue, I carefully sanded down the soles of the front legs, giving them a more stable base to rest on. Additionally, I touched up the exposed wood with an off-white nail polish finish.
