This prototype animatronic tail was designed using OpenScan and 3D printed on a printer, controlled by Arduino. Watch this test video for demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1k9p1P4s8I. The tail's movement is determined by the number of vertebrae chosen (10 plus one final), with rubber cords in side holes and strings attached to a wheel in other holes, ensuring the rope doesn't slip using small aluminum rings.
