Animatronic Little Bit Fish
thingiverse
This is a truly remarkable robotic fish that my talented 5th Grade students have been working on! It's a remix of Davision3d's "Fish" file, and the students were able to remove the tail, eye, and jaw to create movable parts. They used Little Bits to build the moving parts - tail, jaw, and possibly the eye. The fish is designed to be seen from the front side, which is the fish facing left as you look at it. The back side is where they mount the Little Bits. The students printed it in glow-in-the-dark Hatchbox PLA. Once they have the robotic fish working, their next goal is to control it over wifi and ultimately use it as an instructional tool to teach other students about fish. It should be complete soon! We will upload parts, photos, and video as we can. Standards: CCSS Overview and Background Genius Project This is a Genius Project that a group of students worked on. They wanted to create a fish as part of their research, and use it as a tool to teach others about their learning. Lesson Plan and Activity No Lesson plan, per se This was a creative addition to a multi-genre/interdisciplinary genius project. Students used Design Thinking to work through an idea on a topic they were excited about. The group creating this fish wanted to learn more about fish and share their learning in a motivating way with younger students or possibly students with special needs.
