[Note: The "Download All" button is not working. The individual download links in the "Thing Files" section do work and the included zip files have all the ship STL files. You can also download all files at the alternate Google drive location: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UDmwTRmFw3v5UO3aoYgVzBGbKtLFeS5K?usp=sharing ] This is the 18th expansion parts kit meant to complement my original Star Trek Constitution Class Parts Kit, providing parts and ship models to support several starships seen in Star Trek: The Animated Series, along with fanon derivatives and additional variants of my own design. See my Thingiverse Profile for the full list of parts kits I’ve released so far. Each of these kits includes combined ships and ship parts STL files, along with blender source files used to create them. Ship files should be ready to print. Part files are provided so you can import into your 3d modelling software of choice to combine and modify to easily create your own ship designs. All parts are meant to be cross-compatible between kits. Note: because of the large number of ship variant files in this kit, I've only included the TOS versions as separate STL files in this kit to simplify uploading. All other variant STL files are included in the attached zip file tas-transports-ship-stls.zip. Antares type manned transport The Antares is a transport ship that made its appearance in the TOS Remastered version of the episode Charlie X (in the original version of the episode, the Antares was unseen). This design is largely based on the unmanned cargo drone ship from The Animated Series (the Sherman class listed below), with a forward command module added. Sherman class drone transport An unmanned cargo ship first seen in The Animated Series episode More Tribbles, More Troubles (Sherman class is a fanon name). While much of TAS was long considered apocryphal in live-action Trek, Michael Okuda was a fan of this ship, and included it as a 3d model when adding new special effects for TOS Remastered. It appeared in the Remastered episodes Court Martial and The Ultimate Computer. Huron type transport The USS Huron was another transport ship seen in The Animated Series, featuring in the episode The Pirates of Orion. Independence class transport The Independence class is a fanon design, largely derived from a simplified version of the Huron. Variants For the Antares and Sherman ships, I’ve created several standard variants: Extended cargo. Contains a second cargo module on the underside of the ship. Container transport. Replaces the lower cargo holds with an underslung connector for Franz Joseph style transport containers. Antimatter transport. Includes both the extended cargo and a top mounted module container several spherical transport bottles for antimatter storage. Top-mounted container. Includes both the extended cargo and a top mounted Franz Joseph transport container. For all ship variants included in this kit, I’ve also included a version using constitution refit style nacelles (which are not strictly scale-accurate), and another using Oberth style nacelles. Zip files are included in the following google drive locations: tas-transports-ship-stls.zip – Contains the combined, ready to print, ship files. Note there are three versions for each ship: a TOS version, a TMP version (using refit nacelles), and an Oberth nacelle version. Note there’s a lot of ship files due to these variants, and non-TOS versions are only included in the zip file. tas-transports-parts-stls.zip – Contains all of the individual part STL files used to create the combined ship files. tas-transports-blender-files.zip – Contains the source blender files used to generate the parts. Sherman and Antares ships share one set of files, and the Huron and Independence share another. Notes on scaling and working with Blender My target scale for all source files and output STL files is 1:1000, However, I generally recommend 1:2500 or smaller given the detail level of the model. Although these files have not been extensively tested through printing, they are intended to be resized to match common modelling and miniatures scales. | Target scale | Scale STL files to: | Notes | |--------------|---------------------|----------------------------------| | 1/3900 | 0.25641026 | FASA miniature scale | | 1/3788 | 0.26399155 | ADB Starline 2400 scale | | 1/3125 | 0.32 | ADB Starline 2500 scale | | 1/2500 | 0.4 | The Trek modelers "Golden scale" | | 1/1600 | 0.625 | TOS 3-Ship Set scale | | 1/1400 | 0.714285714 | Common resin model scale | | 1/650 | 1.538461538 | Modelling scale | | 1/537 | 1.862197393 | Common scale for TMP models | | 1/350 | 2.857142857 | Large scale | Blender Blender is free, which to be honest was the primary factor in my decision to learn it. There are many fine video and text tutorials available online if you're interested in learning more. For a basic tutorial on moving and joining objects in Blender(which should be the minimum you need to know when working with these parts), see this instructables tutorial. You can use File -> Import -> Stl (.stl) and File -> Export -> Stl (.stl) to load or save STL files in blender. Note: These kits were built using Blender 2.9. Post-processing STL output Although all of the STL files included have been tested as valid watertight meshes, joining the parts together and exporting new STL files can introduce small errors that may cause issues with slicing programs. I recommend any STL files you create are checked using a program like Netfabb Basic free edition. Doing a simple "Close All Holes" repair has fixed most of the issues I've run into so far. If you do run into issues with mesh quality, please let me know. File manifest Parts The tas-transports-parts-stls.zip file contains all of the part STL model files listed below. Note some parts will be shared between ships, for instance The Antares uses the same nacelles and pylons as the Sherman, so don’t have their own version of the parts. | Part | Description | |--------------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------------------------------| | Antares-cargo-extended.stl | Antares type extended cargo module. | | Antares-cargo-standard.stl | Antares type extended cargo module. | | Antares-command-module.stl | Antares type forward manned command module. | | Antares-lower-transport-container-dock.stl | Underslung Franz Joseph style transport container connection. | | Antares-main-hull.stl | Main central hull. | | Antares-TMP-sensor.stl | Constitution refit style front sensor dish. | | Antares-transport-antimatter-container.stl | Antimatter transport module. | | Antares-transport-antimatter-dock.stl | Top-mounted antimatter transport module connection. | | Antares-transport-container.stl | Franz Joseph style transport container. | | Antares-transport-dock.stl | Top-mounted Franz Joseph style transport container connection. | | Huron-lower-hull.stl | Lower hull components. | | Huron-main-hull.stl | Main central hull. | | Huron-sensor-probe-port.stl | Front mounted pylon and sensor module. | | Huron-sensor-probe-starboard.stl | Front mounted pylon and sensor module. | | Independence-lower-hull.stl | Lower hull components. | | Independence-main-hull.stl | Main central hull. | | Independence-nacelle-Oberth-port.stl
