A handheld light (often called a flashlight in North America) is a portable electric illuminator. Typically, the light source is an incandescent bulb or a light-emitting diode (LED). A standard flashlight comprises a light source mounted within a reflector, a protective transparent cover often combined with a lens to safeguard both the light source and reflector, batteries, and a switch. These components are encased in a durable case.
