Three cartoon animals I printed for a child's mobile.

Print instructions

Scale the model in x-y to the desired size (I used around 100mm). Keep the z size the same or scale it slightly to make it easier to paint the different colors.

Print two versions of each file, one normal and one mirrored on the x-y plane. Then glue them together. You can hang them by the hole in the top which is above the center of mass.

Post-Print

I glued the two halves together with super glue and coated them with plastic primer. I then painted the layers with acrylic paint. It is best to start at the lowest layer and work your way up. The raised layers help immensly with keeping clear lines. A small flat brush is also the best way to prevent accidentally painting the lower layers. After the paint had time to dry for 24h, I applied two matte clear coates to protect the paint.

How I designed it

I searched for cartoon animals on Google and used Gimp to clean the images and reduce the colors. I then used Inkscape to trace the bitmaps into vectors and seperated the colors into different layers. I then exported the file as dxf in inches. The dxf files where then imported into Fusion 360 with the option to put each layer into a different sketch. Then I extruded the different color layers. Lastly if used the center of mass function of Fusion 360 to show the center of mass and created a circle with it's center above the center of mass.
