One of my very first designs, made in Tinkercad and taking about 4-5 hours to complete due to many organelles requiring a significant amount of time to build. Print Settings Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: .05-.1 Infill: 25% Standards NGSS Overview and Background This is a detailed general eukaryotic cell (animal) with all the standard organelles from Golgi bodies to ribosomes in accurate shapes and scaled to the size of the cell. This model can be printed for middle schoolers to demonstrate an example of a cell in early science learning or given during lectures to high schoolers so they can see and touch what is on the screen. Lesson Plan and Activity Middle School: Pass around pre-printed cells and let children play with them to understand the workings of a cell. High School: Print one object per person or per lab group and hand out during a lecture on cells. If desired, print numbers on the organelles corresponding to the lecture slides. Materials Needed Slideshow presenting class material Printer Cell model Marker to label the cell with numbers if needed Skills Learned Cell biology Organelles Eukaryotes Eukaryotic Animal science Technology Duration of Lesson 30-60 minutes including lecture Preparation Prepare one labeled or non-labeled cell model for each student or lab group. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation for the lecture. Print out with numbers for each organelle, leaving space to fill in its name. Rubric and Assessment At the end of the lecture, turn off the PowerPoint and give students the printout. Provide 5 minutes for them to label each number with the correct name of the organelle. For middle schoolers, this should not be graded; it's a learning activity. For high schoolers, this activity can be graded or not graded based on discretion and class ability level.
