Angular Speaker Box Remix - Coaxial Speaker with Crossover
thingiverse
This is a remix which creates the opening in the back of the speaker for a frequency crossover to be used with a coaxial/concentric speaker (speaker which houses a low frequency woofer and high frequency tweeter in the same unit, with two separate inputs, using a crossover used to split the frequencies into two bands, high and low, between the two speakers). Speaker I used is a 4" Definitive Technologies which was a replacement for one in my soundbar, as they sent me two speakers by mistake, so I used the extra one in this project. This speaker had two separate inputs for bass/treble which required the crossover. You could also use any 4" wide speaker with built in crossover, such as this, and just use the original model for the angular speaker box (this remix is to allow for the external crossover linked below).... https://www.amazon.ca/Kicker-DSC50-4-Ohm-Coaxial-Speaker/dp/B01BLVF3TE/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=4%22+coaxial+speaker&qid=1626885283&sr=8-6 For power, Im using a small mono Nobsound amplifier (only using one speaker, for two you would need a stereo amp). Overkill power for a speaker of this size, but it was cheap... Works fine, but it would have looked better. Also, speaker sounds much better if you stuff with a small amount of acoustic insulation (ie. Rockwool or QuietZone from Home Depot). Only comes in large amounts unfortunately, so I found some scrap pieces from my friendly neighborhood contractor. Warning: This is not a great sounding speaker, but for my purposes which is to check my music mixes on a crappy sounding speaker, it did the trick. This is a homemade version of an Auratone, used by many music engineers over the years to check mixes in mono on a small car AM radio or small TV speakersetc. These can cost a few hundred dollars, or more... https://www.sweetwater.com/store/manufacturer/Auratone
