Angular Speaker Box

Angular Speaker Box

An angular speaker enclosure for 3-inch speakers is designed to showcase the drivers in style. Printed in two pieces, the top/front and bottom/back sections are assembled with epoxy after mounting the internal speaker and binding posts. The internal design includes additional angular panels to minimize sound waves bouncing off the flat back wall, a feature some argue is unnecessary on small speakers like this but adds visual appeal nonetheless. A 3D printer produces the enclosure in PLA, with ABS or PETG also suitable options. I used Hatchbox Wood for the top/front and eSun Warm White for the bottom/back sections, both printed at 0.3mm layer height for an uneven, layered look. Print settings include a Custom Kossel Mini printer, no rafts or supports, and a resolution of 0.3 with 25% infill. To achieve an airtight seal, print three perimeter layers. After printing, clean up the speaker cutout by lightly sanding and filing on the inside section, as this part prints upside-down. Attach the speaker to the front using four 3M screws, possibly with nylon washers for added protection. Mount the binding post terminal through two holes in the back section, requiring only the front plastic piece, lock washers, and nuts. Solder speaker wire to the terminals, leaving enough length to tighten the nuts after the case is sealed. Test the wiring and speaker before gluing the enclosure together, as this step cannot be undone without damaging the components. To assemble the enclosure, apply glue along the inside track of the bottom piece and the shelf facing towards the front. Carefully avoid dripping glue on the outside or pulling on the wiring. Clamp the two pieces together while the glue dries, using masking tape as a substitute for clamps if necessary. Required parts include: * 3-inch speaker drivers (2) * Speaker terminal binding posts (2) * 4 x 8mm 3M screws * Optional: 4 x 3M nylon washers * Wire suitable for speakers (less than 1 ft.) * Glue with good gap-filling properties These speakers are designed to be assembled once and not taken apart, so ensure solid internal connections before sealing the enclosure.
