One of the most striking circular stone huts known as Cytiau’r Gwyddelod - 'The Irishmen's Huts' at Ty Mawr, near South Stack, Anglesey, stands out for its impressive architecture. Initially unearthed in the 1860s when no less than fifty structures were documented. Many of these huts underwent partial restoration in the early 20th century and areas were re-excavated between 1978-82. Today, a mere twenty buildings remain intact. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of human presence spanning from the Mesolithic era to the Early Medieval periods with discoveries including flint arrowheads, stone instruments, ceramics, and Roman currency. The primary standing remnants likely date back to the Iron Age. These round dwellings would have featured low stone walls supporting roof beams, topped with a thatch or turf covering.
