<p>for mounting the cam cleats on the arched wooden bars on our new sailing boat I hopped into sketchup and made this little riser.</p> <h3> How I Designed This</h3> <p><strong>0. photo's</strong></p> <p><div><p>first I took some photos of the underside of a cam cleat and of the profile of the wooden bar with a ruler next to it as scale</p></div> <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/3e/19/e0/e7/c9/IMG\_3004.jpg"/></p> <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/97/ad/b6/29/ee/IMG\_3001.jpg"/></p> <p class="detail-title"><strong>1. setting up in sketchup</strong></p> <div><p>I imported my photo's into sketchup<br/> rotated them so the ruler was on an axis</p> <p>and traced them with arcs</p> <p class="detail-title"><strong>2. solids</strong></p> <div><p>now the extrude tool is used to make those arcs into solids</p></div> <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/74/72/92/0d/b0/rThinn.png"/></p> <p class="detail-title"><strong>3. solid boolean function</strong></p> <div><p>now using the subtract tool we can subtract the wooden bar from the riser and end up with a usable object</p></div> <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/64/47/61/fe/d1/thi.png"/></p> <p class="detail-title"><strong>4. print and test fit</strong></p> <div><p>After this step I printed it out and tested the fit.<br/> Everything was perfect until I tried to bolt it on... **5. spotting errors** <div><p>the error I made was that the holes in the bar where I had to bolt it on were not centred and thus the cam cleat was on and angle and the bolts didn't fit.</p></div> <p class="detail-title"><strong>6. fixing errors</strong></p> <div><p>to fix my error, I bolted it on without cam cleat and measured the angle of the top surface with the compass app on my phone. 15° off. let's fix it.</p></div> <p class="detail-video"> <figure class="media"> <oembed url="https://www.youtube.com/embed/308D3jex7WM"></oembed> </figure> </p> <p class="detail-caption">that easy huh?</p></p></div></div></p> Category: Sport & Outdoors
